More Home Carpet Tips
In continuation to the article on carpet tips,
here is more wacky stuff you can use (with a little discretion , of
course)..
A Cigarette burn on the carpet will normally mean
a blackened hole. Repairing this kind of a damage may be expensive
or simple not feasible. An easy inexpensive way is to use curved
scissors to cut out the blackened fibers. This will create a
smallish pit into which you can put in some liquid quick setting
colorless glue. Sprinkle, and place some (extra) fiber cut
from a discrete part of the carpet (without damaging it). Leave for
a while and you should have a perfect repair job.
Getting rid of blood stains from a carpet is
tough. You need to blot up as much as possible as and when the
stains are still fresh and have not dried up. Use paper towels to
blot up. Then use cold water to try and flush them off. Avoid hot
water as they will set the stains further. A light application of
household ammonia can help remove the left over stain. The trick is
to catch the stain when it is fresh.
If wax has dripped over your carpeting you need
to get it off quickly before it really gets settled in. Take brown
paper bags and put them over the spilled wax. Use a warm iron over
the bags. Not too hot, but warm enough, to transfer heat to the
paper bags. This will help transfer the wax onto the bags. You may
need to repeat the process to get rid of a big wax spill.
Another way is to harden the wax with ice. You
can take a plastic bag and fill it with ice and use this bag to
harden the wax spill. The hardened wax can be scraped off with a
wooden spoon / spatula.
To get the pile of the carpet up and lively
again, you need to give it a rake. Most old carpets with deep
pile may over time become crushed and give that smashed in look. To
get it lively, use a light bamboo or light plastic rake to pull the
fibers up straight. Do remember to use the rake in only one
direction, the natural direction of the pile. Alternatively,
you may use a brush with widely spaced needles to give it that
rub.
You may not know, but walking barefoot on a
carpet is actually not too good. The body oils rub off on the carpet
attracting dust and dirt. Try and wear socks or clean house slippers
instead.
