Get Rid of that Fishy Smell
Cooking fish, can be a fishy experience. The fish
smell can pervade all over and this can be a little disconcerting. One
way to reduce this problem is to put 8 - 10 mint leaves in the pan when
cooking. This will help prevent the smell pervading the house.
If you are planning to fry fish, the smell can be
pretty much a problem. To get rid of that problem, put a slice of apple
into the oil in which you are frying the fish. The fishy smell will
vanish!
Another trick is to hang a wet towel in the kitchen,
while cooking fish. The wet towel will absorb the smell, leaving the
kitchen odor free.
Another simple way is to light a candle near where
the fish is being cooked. This will not reduce the smell but will help
prevent it from spreading throughout the house.
If you plan to boil prawns or fish, drop in a few
cinnamon sticks into that water. This will help prevent the smell from
spreading.
Another way to avoid the fishy smell, is to soak the
fish in milk for half an hour and then drain before cooking it. If you
do not like the milky flavor, you may try washing it with vinegar before
cooking. This will help reduce the smell.
If your oven smells of fish and you want it smelling
clean, here is a solution. take a cup of water, add three drops of
vanilla essence to it and let is heat slowly in the oven. Within a few
minutes, the oven will start smelling clean.
If the fishy smell clings to the pan or vessel in
which you have cooked it, try washing that utensil with water to which
vinegar has been added. This will remove that persisting smell.
Now if your hands smell of fish, because you handled
it and that lingering smell just does not go, then try rubbing the hands
with a little mustard powder. This will help get rid of all lingering
smells.
