Useful food Tips
We will not focus on recipes here but rather on
how to get the most out of the food stuff we are cooking. These tips
will add value to the food you cook and make them go a little
further.
Enjoy them and find some value in them.
Soak almonds in warm water for a couple of
minutes, if you need to peel them quickly. This will make the chore
much easier and faster.
While cooking spinach, you may loose that green
color. To maintain it, add a pinch of sugar to it. The spinach will
retain its green color.
To whiten mushrooms when cooking, add a teaspoon
of lime juice to them. The mushrooms will whiten and look
attractive. Another easy way, is to add two teaspoons of hot milk to
them while cooking them.
While cooking cauliflowers, try adding a little
milk to it. This will help the vegetable retain its white color.
Alternatively, add a teaspoon of lemon juice while cooking it.
That also seems to work very well.
Incase you are looking to squeeze juice from a
lemon which is getting to be a little dry and shriveled up, try
putting it in hot water for 3- 4 minutes. Then, squeeze it and find
ample juice.
Peeling tomatoes can be tough. Try putting them
in hot water for a couple of minutes and then in cold water
for a minute, before peeling them, to
make the task much easier.
If you need to peel a garlic, then the right way
to do it is to soak the garlic flakes in a cupful of water for ten
minutes before peeling them. This will ensure that the garlic skin does not
stick to your hands.
Another way to peel those garlic flakes requires
a little sun. Run a little mustard oil on them and keep the garlic
flakes in the sun for a few minutes. They will be much easier to
peel.
Cutting onions can bring tears to your eyes. A
simple way to do it, is to chill the onions in a freezer for
about thirty minutes prior to cutting them. This is the easy way.
Alternatively cut them inside a bowl of water with the onions soaked
in.
Finding it tough to slice raw meat? Dip your
knife in hot water before slicing it, to do it the easy way.
If you need to de husk a coconut, it can be quite
a challenge. An easy solution is as follows. Place it over a high
flame on a stove for about two to three minutes. Do not let is touch
the flame or it will catch fire. Now try de husking it. The husk
will come off easily.
If you are serving cut fruits which will stay on
a serving platter for long, try adding a little honey to them. This
will help prevent them from turning brown and will also enhance the
flavor.
If you want fluffy mashed potatoes, try adding a
pinch of baking soda while mashing them. The heat in the potatoes
will interact with the baking powder, create air pockets and fluff
out the potatoes for a great taste.
To make a light pastry, try using club soda
instead of tap water while kneading the dough. The pastry is sure to
turn out light and sumptuous.
