Kitchen Cleaning and Maintenance Tips
There are multiple and varied kitchen tips available
all over the net. However, in this short article, we will focus on a few
wacky tips which can help the householder get rid of those tough stains,
creaking noises and more.
Keep the kitchen counter clean with the help of
white vinegar. Dip a clean cloth in vinegar and wipe the platform
with it. This will clean away the grease, disinfect the platform and
bring back the shine.
Your gas stove can also be cleaned with a sponge
dipped in vinegar. This will leave the cooking range sparkling and
remove surface grease and grime.
Line the bottom of the vegetable compartment (
crisper) of your refrigerator with paper. This paper will absorb the
excess moisture and keep the vegetables and fruits fresh a little
longer.
Alternatively, put a medium sized sponge in the
vegetable crisper. This will absorb water and can be wrung out after
a few days.
If the refrigerator or any other door hinge
starts to make squeaky noises, rub some talcum powder on the hinges.
This will provide lubrication and the squeaking noise will stop.
The hinge can also be rubbed with a lead pencil to stop the noise.
The graphite also acts as a lubricant.
A refrigerator can be kept smelling fresh by
filling a small bowl with soda bicarbonate ( baking soda) and
keeping it in a corner. The baking soda neutralizes odors and keeps
the refrigerator smelling fresh.
A greasy oven can be cleaned easily with
household ammonia. Just simply put in a saucer full of,
household ammonia in the greasy oven, close the door and leave
overnight. The ammonia fumes will work on the grease and you can
clean it easily with a clean piece of cloth the next day.
The inside of an oven can also be cleaned with
baking soda ( soda bicarb). Apply a paste of baking soda and water
on the inner walls of the greasy oven. Keep the oven switched on at
low heat for about 30 minutes. Stop and wait for a few minutes
before brushing off the dried paste. The burnt fat and other greasy
stains will vanish.
A microwave that has got hardened food particles
stuck in the inside, is normally difficult to clean. Here is a solution.
Squeeze two lemons (juice) into a cup of water. Put this diluted
lemon juice into the microwave oven and set the oven on high. Let
the water and juice mixture come to a boil and let the steam loosen
the grime and food particles inside the oven. The lemon removes the
undesirable food smells also.
You can remove the smell of fish or meat from the
oven easily. Heat a cup of water in the oven, to which three
drops of vanilla essence have been added. The vanilla smell will
help get rid of the offending smells.
If you got burnt food particles clinging to a
sauce pan or any other utensil, here is a solution. Fill the pan
with salty water and leave for a few hours. Then slowly bring to a
boil. The burnt particles will come off without trouble.
