Wacky Preserve Tips

Here we are going to learn and apply basic tips to preserving food and stuff. The tricks are simple to use and help save money and reduce wastage. 

Preparing cottage cheese at home is a time consuming process. An easy way to store it for long is to drop it into a bowl of water and refrigerate. It is important to ensure that the whole cheese is dipped in water and the water is changed everyday. This is an easy way to preserve cottage cheese.

An easy way to preserve eggs for long is to coat them with butter oil and then refrigerate. They will stay preserved for long while you make that important trip or take a break from cooking.

Peeled more potatoes than you require? Simply keep them in cold water (refrigerate) to which one teaspoon of vinegar has been added. They will remain fresh for four to five days to be used whenever require.

To store potatoes without them sprouting buds, you need to put an apple along with them. This works and helps in storing potatoes for long.

It is difficult to preserve bananas. They turn 'black' very quickly and overripe bananas are not really edible. One way to delay the ripening is to wrap them in a newspaper and refrigerate them They will remain fresh a little longer than normal.

Also wrapping 'papayas' in paper will help them retain their freshness and help preserve them for  a longer period of time.

Wash fruits and sprinkle a few drops of lemon juice on them before storing them in a refrigerator. They will remain fresh and juicy for much longer.

And honey can be added to cut fruits as they are served on  a platter. This will keep them from turning black.

Refrigerate mushrooms in a paper bag only. This helps them stay fresh longer.

In general fruits and vegetables will remain fresh far longer if you wrap them in newspaper before putting them in the crisper ( in the refrigerator). the paper will absorb excess moisture and help preserve the foods.

Keep coconut kernels fresh, by sprinkling a little salt water over them before refrigerating.

To preserve lemons for  a longer time, coat them with coconut oil and refrigerate in an open container. They will stay fresh for really long.

Fresh herbs will remain fresh longer if they are wrapped in aluminum foil and then stored in a fridge (refrigerator).
